SCHOOL LABORATORY RULES AND PROCEDURES

 

 

 

 

LABORATORY RULES

 

1.      No one is allowed to drink  or smoked inside the laboratory.

2.      Use safety glass. These would prevent spilled chemicals or flying broken equipment from permanent damage to the eyes.

3.      Wear appraises clothing and protecting shoes. This would protect one against spilled chemicals or flying liquids.

4.      ALWAYS WEAR LABORATORY OWN. These would protect the clothes and skin from contact corrosive chemicals.

5.      KNOW LOCATION OF SAFETY EQUIPMENTS. Such as safety shower, fire extinguisher, and laboratory first aid kit.

6.      DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CONDUCT ANY EXPERIMENT ON YOUR OWN WITHOUT THE INSTRUCTOR KNOWLEDGE OR SUPERVISION.

7.      KEEP THE WORK SPACE ORDERLY. Place all items toward the back, so they won’t be overturned when reaching over item.

8.      ASSEMBLE APPARATUS SAFELY. Makeshift equipment and poor apparatus assembles usually causes accidents.

9.      LABEL CAREFULLY BEFORE TAKING ANYTHING FROM THE BOTTLE. Use of a wrong reagent can spoil an experiment or causes a serious accident.

10.  LEAVE REAGENT BOTTLES ON THE DESIGNATED TABLE OR SHELVES. DO NOT CARRY THEM TO YOUR DESK. Obtain only the required quantities of chemicals.

11.  DO NOT CONTAMINATE REAGENT. Neither insert your own spatulas or pipets, nor return excess materials into regent bottles.

12.  BE CAREFUL WITH FLAMES. Light the burner only for the time period in which it is actually used. Position it carefully away from flammable materials.

13.  DO NOT SMELL CHEMICALS DIRECTLY. Instead point the vessel away from your face and carefully fan the vapors towards your face with your hand shift gently. NEVER TASTE A CHEMICALS unless specified.

14.  DO NOT PIPET BY MOUTH. Always use a rubber tubing connected to an aspirator to fill the pipet.

15.  DO NOT POUR WATER INTO ACIDS. Since so much heat may be liberated from the solution resulting to an explosion. Never add concentrated acid to concentrated base use versa.

16.  USE THE HOOD. Any experiment involving the use of or production of poisonous or obnoxious gases must be performed in the hoods.

17.  CLEAN UP SPILLED CHEMICALS IMMEDIATELY. Using liberal quantities of water. Neutralized spilled acid or base.

18.  INSOLUBLE LIQUIDS AND SOLIDS GO INTO WASTE CANS, NOT IN THE SINKS. For waste insoluble solvents, provide capped waste solvent containers.

19.  REPORT ANY ACCIDENT TO THE LABORATORY INSTRUCTOR

20.  TURN OFF THE GAS AND WATER OUTLETS EACH USE.

21.  RETURN ALL EQUIPMENTS TO ITS PROPER PLACE.

 

HOW TO BORROW TOOLS/ EQUIPMENTS FROM THE CUSTODY'S

 

1. As a general policy, every verified PhilCST students are entitled to borrow tools/equipment from the custodians as long as the tools/equipment are available.

 

2. To borrow  a tool/equipment from the custodians president your validated ID, current registration card and fill up the borrowers slip form. Write the name of the tool/equips you are going to borrow together with the number of pieces or items.

 

3. Check the condition of the tools/equip issued to you. It is the responsibility of the borrower to check the condition of tools at the counter of the custodians. Remember that a detective tool/equip retrieved to the custodians becomes a liability of the fees collected to the borrower during the final examination.

 

(Important: The laboratory fee is charge to students for the use of the laboratory facilities of the institution. Laboratory breakage/damages are fees collected to the students for the damages on the equip/tools borrowed from the custodians. You are not supposed to destroy/damage the tool/equip just because you are paying the laboratory fee.)

 

4. No tool/equip borrowed from the custodians are allowed to be brought out from the school campus. Tools/Equip borrowed are to be used only inside the school campus.

 

5. Borrowed tool/equip from the custodians are supposed to be return after hour or after any laboratory schedule.
