Comments:- The recording on the CDRs issued by Premiere appears to be of a performance given by the New York City Opera in Philadelphia on 14 December 1965 (see http://frankhamilton.org/ph). There was a new production at the City Opera (borrowed from Cincinnati Summer Opera) on 14 October 1965 with repeats on 30 October and 6 November, but Plácido Domingo did not appear in any of these performances. In fact, he only sang Hoffmann once at the City Opera, on 9 November 1966, but neither Sills, nor Treigle sang on that occasion («The New York City Opera» by Martin L. Sokol pp.344-353)

Comments:- Recording of a performance at the Boston Opera (April 1966; ). See «My First Forty Years» by Plácido Domingo p.46. According to the Performance List in this book Plácido Domingo has only sung in this opera in these two performances in Boston (6, 10 April 1966), and so the statement in the review in OPÉRA INTERNATIONAL (probably taken from the HRE LPs) that the recording is of a performance at the New York City Opera is incorrect

Comments:- Recording of a concert performance given at the Tanglewood Festival (12 July 1969). According to the review in OPERA (Festival Issue 1969 p.126, p.128) «...although the opera was performed in German, a narrator connected the arias, duets and ensembles with a spoken commentary in English that both disrupted the musical flow and provided moments of grotesque hilarity...». The CDRs issued by Premiere are listed in their list entitled «FALL 2003 PREMIERE OPERA COMPACT DISC RELEASES» where an additional cast member «Gordon» is given. This is, presumably, the Bassa Selim.
