Demystifying Writers’ Demons©

One by One  by Joan Upton Hall

                         Demystifying Writers’ Demons©

  Odd Pluralizations: mouses & louses

Words derived from Old English usually make their plurals irregularly as in:

       child - children

       ox - oxen

       foot - feet

mouse - mice (the rodent kind)

louse - lice (the insect kind)

Modern usage, however, presents two exceptions:

When the mouse you’re talking about is either an overly timid person or a computer

device you point and click with, two or more of them are mouses.

When the louse you’re talking about is a two-legged, dishonorable, villainous

scoundrel, and he has one or more buddies like him, they are louses.

Do demons bedevil your writing? Similar, confusing words? Grammar, punctuation, or capitalization rules? “The Demystifier” will clear up the mystery (primary reference unless otherwise noted: Garner, Bryan A. Dictionary of Modern American Usage. N.Y.: Oxford University Press). Address questions and comments to freelance editor, Joan Upton Hall, PO Box 179, Hutto, TX 78634, or email: jmuHall@aol.com. More problems like the one above are demystified in the booklet, 50 Writers’ Tips. Find a few of them at “books, etc.” on website: www.JoanUptonHall.com.

As your tear descends down your cheek like a falling rose
The pain in your heart feels like the thorn
Then there are more falling tears from your eyes
Falling Roses

You never want to feel again.
But you will
And you do.

                    Last Book I Read

I'm In No Mood For Love by Rachel Gibson (New York Times Bestselling Author)

Clare Wingate was going to her friend's wedding, yet she stopped back at home for her grandmother's pearls and found her fiancé in a compromising position with the washing machine repairman. In the walk-in closet. The morning after the wedding Clare finds herself in someone's hotel room. And that someone was in the shower. When he came out of the shower, wearing a towel, she realized that he was Sebastian Vaughn. They had grown up together and Clare hadn't seen him for many years. Now, Sebastian is sexy with an eight-inch pecker and six-pack abs. Sebastian told Clare that they had sex. She was too wasted to remember anything about the night before. Days later, Clare tells Sebastian that he should go get an HIV test. He finally admits to her that they never did have sex the night of the wedding.

I absolutely loved this book. It's definitely a page turner. I read 90 pages in 2 hours and I didn't want to skip to the end. It drew me in at Chapter 1. I'm In No Mood For Love is somewhat funny, and the romance will definitely get a woman tingling.

Would you like a copy? Order it here from Amazon.
