Brine getting plenty of playing time in the playoffs

David Brine has been logging plenty of ice time in the playoffs thus far.

The 19-year-old Halifax Mooseheads forward has been centring a top-three line, has been on the ice for almost every penalty-kill situation and is taking most, if not all of, the critical faceoffs for his team.

"If you check his statistics, he's good on the draw, so you have to use him," said Mooseheads coach Al MacAdam of the dependable Truro product. "He likes being in that role. He's not on the power play as of this point.

"My job is to kind of slide guys into roles where they're going to succeed. Right now, he's risen to that. You need guys like that."

MacAdam wasn't thrilled with the work of referee Richard Forest in Game 4, stating his officiating "left a lot to be desired."

"We had (Justin) Saulnier leave the game with a concussion. We had a knee on Brine. They opened the door on (Petr) Vrana, plus he was hit before that," said MacAdam, who several times during Wednesday's Game 4 went down to his team's bench door to try to talk with Forest.

"It was a very physical game, and I thought there were some calls he could have made."

The Mooseheads were also upset with some of the penalties they received, including a five-minute major and game misconduct to Frederik Cabana for slashing Petr Pohl midway through the third period.

Halifax was also assessed a minor for too many men on the ice with 4:30 left in regulation. The Mooseheads killed off both penalties, and scored a short-handed marker to tie the game during the five-minute major.

"I thought our penalty kill was very good at that point," MacAdam said. "There was emotion in our penalty killing, and we got goaltending as well."
