The class of '05

The Mooseheads selected 15 players - ten forwards, four defenceman, and one goaltender - at the 2005 QMJHL Entry Draft in Chicoutimi on Saturday. Ben MaCaskill was the first to be choosen by Halifax. The 6'0', 185 pound blueliner from Cape Breton West (NSMMHL) was taken in the first round, 17th overall. It was the team's first opening round pick since 2001 (Alexandre Picard). Forwards Logan MacMillan (2nd, 34th), Daniel Smith (3rd, 48th), Yuri Cheremetiev (3rd, 53rd), and netminder Mark Yetman (5th, 80th) rounded out Halifax's top five. Smith is the son of team owner Bobby Smith. Alex Grant became the third consecutive Nova Scotian to be taken first overall when he was picked by the expansion Saint John Sea Dogs.
