Free Love-Thursday Riot! by Mohd Jayzuan and Company, Kick Ass!
Free Love-Jayzuan and co Malaysian sincerity that glows well in the J-Mascis way
Expect some weird tones and singing style check. Indie rocking intoxicated teh tarik "lepak"-drunk moment check. Weird repetitive catchy lyrics check. J-Macsis and Dinosaur Jr in the form of Mohd Jayzuan check. Expect the tunes to run in your head over and over check. Cool layered guitar work check. Then proceed to satisfy your ear drums with the tunes by Free Love. Made from 100% Malaysian that represent the epitome of what a true Malaysian band sound or in Free Love case, the sound of Ipoh.
Jay's songwriting plays well in the theme of love and also living a free life of rocking an embracing art as it is. The album kicks off with a great opener "Yaya Song" that will immediately put a smile on your face. Though no pun intended I strongly believe that the Rebel Scum version should be taken out from the album, because its totally gibberish. The rapping falls short as lazy and in my own context destroyed the great "Yaya Song"
Overall the album can be considered as fairly okay as it is additive and catchy. However it does requires some time to let it grow on you. Especially if you're used listening to a lot of international band and not used listening to weird vocal range that may sound flat to you. Free Love when in their elements can bring out good sing along tunes, however that element is what the album is lacking. Maybe it's the posh clean recording or is it the raw energy that I yearn for from the Kopi Schewen compilations era. It is sad the album is full of good catchy tunes however there is no killer song like Indie Rock Darling. (There is an acoustic version of Indie Rock Darling in the album).
As for now it's Thursday Riot for me as I dwell listening to Free Love debut album.
Tracks to look for: King of Universe, Thursday Riot and Yaya Song.

Lightcraft-Album Losing Northern Lights Review
Lightcraft-Saving the northern sky in their own way
I have this love and hate relationship with Cold Play since the emergence of over populated piano brits bet wetter sensitive new age guy of this era of looks sells and beauty leads to superficial yuppies being some blogger celebrity.
Blogging celebrity aside, Cold Play is the reason why all band like Until June, The Fray and so on exist in this lonely pretentious nation. Thanks to Chris Martin & co what we have here is a new era of where the rockers are vegetarian and against free trade. Which to me is fucked up because if there is such thing as free trade in this whole world then Cold Play imported DVD would not cost me a bomb. Please be informed that I am also a vegetarian though I emphasize of consuming fermented drinks like Beer, Wine, Liquor and etc. (pickup lines by vegetarian rocker to win over the heart of Vegetarian chicks)
This review however is not about Cold Play but it's about Light Craft. People in the scene love to bicker and from many scenesters's mouth these bunch of guys are always referred as Cold Play wannabes. Let me emphasize this to all you haters out there that Light Craft rocks and doesn't even sound like Cold Play. They're not Cold Play wannabe, but a Light Craft wannabe itself.
Why do I say this? It is because Light Craft debut album sounded like Light Craft and the closest reference that I can draw is Thirteen Senses. Though they may sound more stadium rock compared to Light Craft.
Overall the album is dreamy and after a continuo's listening its does mellow you to a point suicide doesn't matter anymore. In fact listening to Light Craft I can't imagine how much loser a person can be, especially in the track called All In my Mind. (This is the shit man, looking at the girl of your dreams going out with another guy shoulder to shoulder, hand to hand and in your mind she's yours?! That's one screw loser shit stalker stuff man)
It is actually all in my mind that my inner loser is yearning some attention. Though I shut it off with dosages of RadioGravity LamePost bitter ego satire rock and gender confused pop by the Fridays, I still fail because Light Craft closing track "All in My Mind" is too he artful, too strong and keep pulling me into the depth of depression.
Now that my existence is lower than a cow dung. I should just continue dwell in Light Craft brand of music and contemplating love, suicide and stalking the girl I might have a chance for prom date.
Light Craft debut album though after all still is a solid effort and I strongly believed the band can go further than this. Keep dreaming of the bees and butterflies, you can do it!
Key tracks: All In My Mind, The Girl who went to war, All the beautiful shapes and Tanpa Jawaban.
Rating: ***1/2
Listen to only if you're ready for a loser mode.

The Hans Debut Review
The Hans: Album (Self Titled)
www.myspace.com/thehans
Actually I wasn't expecting much of The Hans debut album as I bought it after months of its actual release. But it was a record that I kept close under my radar. As on one fateful day, I've decided to purchase the album at Joe's shop, Rice Cooker Shop. Upon reaching home, I immediately put it in my CD player hoping to blast to fullest. To my dismay, the CD was defected as it cannot be read on normal cd player.
I was devasted, but it didn't dampen my spirit to give it another try. I turn on my computer and pop the cd in and played it on my computer. I was caught in a trance with the tune of Diary of Love. Such reminisce of earlier british pop band ring through my head.
The Hans is made of four lads from Ipoh whom are Shafa, Subha Jumaal Saaba, Elly and Chor Zubir credits are also to Mei, Akmal and Fatyn on their contributions to the tracks.
The experience while listening to the Hans is like being transported into the early nineties of the Britpop glory. Being growing up on that era, The Hans music is something, which I can relate to most and enjoy it to the fullest.
Overall the record display strong key signature tracks. It is safe to say that this is a powerful debut that most music reviewers took too lightly. The album is full of strong tracks and it never fail to impress my ear buds.
The record starts off with Diary of Love, followed by ego trip POP Its not the First Time, a strong track and darn! The tune keeps on ringing on my head. The friend song and Daddy know is sweet and innocent.
But it was until Honey I was caught again in that brit pop era. Its pop sensibilities never fails to amaze me though no pun intended the chorus line is almost similar to Bittersweet's track Come On. Though the melody is different but the lyrics are almost similar on the "come on" part. Perhaps both bands which hails from Ipoh might be listening to the same bands.
The Hans in my own context of words is one good indie band and have the strong sense of composing music. The details of indie supremacy is taken well cared of especially from the guitar works, organs and keyboard and etc.
However in my opinion the band do sound almost similar to Bittersweet and Shafa's vocals styling and range is almost the same with Herri's of Bittersweet, to a point its hard to differentiate both of them. Taking in a positive perspective though both individual display each personal attitude and won character.
To me The Hans debut is a great record that is overlooked by the media and it is so sad that such record just pass on without any marks on the scene. But in my own book, sincerely The Hans is one band to look up for and I seriously hope they continue making more records after this. ¡VStalin Mark
Key Tracks to look out for: Its not the first time, Honey, Diary of Love and Sweet Surrender.
Rating: **** (Tagline: Britpop survivors!)

Yeah.. we may have just abandon ship despite all encouragement. This is to teach the bandmember some lesson.. Bersatu kita teguh, bercerai kita roboh.. Anyway, that's not the real issue. The problem was, the free server got messed up and it was off line for weeks.. months.. I guess it took a toll on our life as well. Mebe there are other significant things other that music alone.. We all gotta love and enjoy what we are doing at the moment.

To all my friend in Sarikei.. No wonder you all "Sleeping With Pills" - 31, Mar 2008 ( 0 comments )

Ding lambasts youths for being ungrateful
By Anthony Aga
SARIKEI: The Sarikei member of parliament Ding Kuong Hiing expressed his dismay over the ingratitude and lack of appreciation to the government among the young generation.
This was clearly shown by their attitude towards the government when instead of being thankful to the government who had accorded them the best of treatment, they supported the opposition in the elections, he said.
“This should not happen to our youngsters, because the government had considered them as the most valuable assets and accorded them the best treatment.”
They were given the opportunity and incentives to acquire the highest education possible to change their life for the better so that they could contribute towards nation-building, he stressed.
The youth seemed to be ungrateful to people, including their own parents, who gave them good things. More often than not they were more receptive to bad influence and preferred bad company.
If that was the case, he felt there was a need for teachers to correct the attitude among the students, he said when he officiated at the divisional Education Department Excellent Awards presentation ceremony at the civic centre here yesterday afternoon.
“Teachers ought to instill in their students the sense of appreciation towards those who give them opportunities and guidance towards a bright future.”
To ensure our youth enjoyed the best opportunities in education, the government had allocated 45 per cent of the nation’s annual expenditure for education, he said, adding, that the budget included provision of free text books, free school fees, free examination fees and many other forms of assistance for the low-income group.
No many governments offered this kind of treatment to the youth, he said, citing the case of China where children had to pay huge amount of fees to enroll into schools.
Apart from education, the government had Publish Postalso allocated funds to ease the hardship of the people in general. That included cheap medical services at government hospital and subsidies on essential goods. It might be difficult to instill this value in the youth overnight, but he believed a systematic way of inculcating the value would gradually click in their mind.

MD Says:
If Ding Kuong Hiing is referring to the younger generation of Sarikei have no appreciation of the government, then he should think twice before giving the comment. Maybe he should think trice.
The reason why the younger generation of Sarikei, in particular, are not appreciating the government is because of the lack of job opportunity. I am doubtful if Ding is residing full time in Sarikei because Sarikei is almost a dead town. A town void of job opportunities. It is the government fault of not planning the future of Sarikei and provide the necessary uplifting for the residents there.
Most young generation of Sarikei after completing their studies are migrating to Kuching or West Malaysia to look for jobs. The only people left at Sarikei are the old folks and school going kids. Those youths that stayed back at Sarikei probably does not have the right qualification for jobs outside Sarikei or maybe they are committed to accompany their parents at home.
Locals originating from Sarikei loves their town and district but have to venture elsewhere to earn their living. Government did provide education but not the opportunity to work and stay in Sarikei.
Lastly, Ding mentioned the cheap medical services at government hospital. All I can say is that the medical services of government run hospital is cheap but hopeless and slow with instances of reported negligent. What Ding should mentioned is that the government hospital is efficient. But that's is only a wish.
To Churd and geng Tears of Hope, its a tough life in Sarikei heh.. busking kat Warf jak la jawab nya. All the best guys and keep the music coming. nei Cd nya untuk di review? - Hamilton - God Wannabe.. hell, im better than god.. i play the bass!!
